In the last 24 hours of a inmates life before he or she is executed, he or she will be given some special privileges.
They are given a last meal. This meal is provided by the prison. The officials of the prison will try to accommodate the inmates wishes as best they can.
Then the warden and a state-appointed chaplain will visit the inmate

What Inmate Actually Goes Through
After the inmate is properly prepares, he or she is escorted into the execution chamber. When the drugs are administered the inmate will be strapped to the gurney for the inmates safety and everyone else.
First the anesthetic Pentothal is administered. This will put the inmate into a deep sleep. The inmate receives 5 grams of the anesthetic. This in itself is a lethal dose.
Then a saline solution is run through the IV.
Next the paralyzing agent, Pavulon, is administered. This will paralyze the inmate's breathing by paralyzing the diaphram and the lungs.
Then more saline is run through the IV.
Then potassium chloride is injected to stop the heart.
When it all comes down to it, a condemned inmate is not beaten or tortured. The basically go to sleep which is the form of death all human beings long for. Also cosidering that you are asleep and paralized there is no way for one to feel a thing.
